Slicing a lot of cherry tomatoes at once can get very monotonous.  This kitchen shortcut (one of my favorites) will allow you to cut enough for your salad or recipe with only one single cut, and it doesn't require any special equipment.  All you need is a sharp knife and a couple of lids.  I like to save the larger lids from margarine tubs since it allows you to do more at once, but for this tutorial I used 2 clear plastic lids.

Place the tomatoes on one of the lids, then place the other lid on top of it

Hold down the top lid to keep the tomatoes from moving around as you slice through the tomatoes.

That's it!  Your tomatoes are ready for your salad or recipe!

What is your favorite kitchen shortcut that you use?  Please feel free to share in the comments below.

  1. What in the world? This is not at all what I was expecting. I was thinking an apple slicer or one of those retractable plunger choppers like from Pampered Chef. This is so easy! Thank so much for sharing. This will make my lunch prep that much faster in the mornings!

    1. :) Glad you liked it. I am too frugal to buy any of those fancy Pampered Chef things for myself (though I would be tickled pink to have some of them)

  7. This is absolutely genius! I watched your video in awe. I always have so much trouble chopping and cutting things up, especially small things like cherry tomatoes. This is so much easier!
